The Cummings Poker League Presents...

This event has expired. Congrats to Steve Cummings on winning The Super Jackpot Open. We will keep you updated on CPL's next special tournament.

Super Jackpot Open 2012

This special CPL event takes place on Saturday, September 22nd.

The Super Jackpot Open is a one-night Texas Hold'em tournament. Regular CPL format will be followed, except this tournament will include rebuys, add-ons, and cash bounties. All the details are explained below, but don't let the "extras" confuse or deter you. All you have to do is enter and play regular poker, and you'll have the opportunity to win a lot of money!

Have questions? Confused about the wording of the format? Leave a comment at the bottom of this forum or contact a director. We will be happy to show you how easy the rules are to understand!

A rebuy is defined as a player losing all of his/her chips and submitting more money to the tournament pool to receive more chips and continue playing in the tournament. There are also circumstances when a player still in possession of chips can purchase a rebuy. The details on how a rebuy works in The Open are explained below.

An add-on is a special opportunity for a player to receive more chips at a predetermined time in a tournament by submitting a set amount of money. The details on when add-ons are available (there will be two total) in The Open are explained below.

A bounty is an award a player earns for taking all of a player's remaining chips, thus knocking that player out of the tournament. The details on how bounties will work in The Open are explained below.

THE OFFICIAL FORMAT: Registration for The Open is $20/player. That gets you $3000 worth of chips. At the start of the tournament, players will have their first opportunity to purchase an add-on. For $10 more, players can receive an additional $2000 worth of chips (so players who choose to buy the add-on start the tournament with $5000 total). The Open will then begin and follow the blind schedule published below. Once the blinds reach the 300/600 level, players still in the tournament will have their second/final opportunity to purchase an add-on. For $10 more, players can receive an additional $2000 worth of chips if they choose. The tournament will then continue until there is a single winner.

REBUYS: Players who get knocked out of The Open have the option to purchase a rebuy. Also, players with less than $1000 worth of chips can purchase a rebuy. For $10 more, players can receive an additional stack of $2000 worth of chips. There is no limit on the number of rebuys a single player can purchase (only one at a time, of course), but once the blinds reach the 800/1600 level, rebuys are prohibited for all players.

BOUNTIES: When players pay their initial registration fee at the beginning of the tournament, they will receive a unique chip that represents their Bounty-Chip. This chip has no value in a hand of poker. Whenever a player is eliminated from the tournament, the player leaving will give his/her Bounty-Chip to the player that knocked them out. Bounty-Chips are worth $5 (real money) for each one a player collects throughout the event.

PAYOUT: For every $20 The Open collects through initial registration, $5 of that will be set in the Bounty Pot to appropriately fund all Bounty-Chips. Therefore, at least $15 per player will be entered into the Main Tournament Pot (MTP). As the tournament is played, the MTP has the potential to grow. All players who purchase add-ons will increase the MTP. Each time a player rebuys, those funds are added to the MTP. For example, if thirty players entered The Open, the MTP would start at $450. If each of those players purchased both add-ons, the MTP would rise to $1050. If only half of those players purchased rebuys, the final MTP would be $1200! Here is the payout breakdown:

If the final MTP is between $75 and $200:
1st Place receives 60%
2nd Place receives 30%

SOME SPECIFICS:
Only No-limit Texas Hold'em will be played. Standard rules for winning hands, betting order, etc. will be followed. All money collected from entries is paid out as winnings. No cut is taken for any reason. This tournament is Texas-legal.

NUMBER OF TABLES: The amount of players registered in The Open will determine the number of tables used. One table is required for every ten people registered. We will consolidate as needed. If multiple tables are running, tables will be rebalanced any time one table contains two or more players than another. During table rebalancing, the player being moved to fill the lighter table will be the person who is currently seated to the right of the dealer, as long as that player isn't the table's current chip leader or low stack. The moment nine players or less are left in a tournament, only one table will be used. If a single player is moved to a new table, that player will be sat to the right of the dealer. If multiple players are being moved to a new table at the same time, those players will be staggered (not sit next to one another) in their same order. During final-table-consolidation, CPL utilizes a "sliding-dealer" method. This means the first hand of the final table will have two big blinds, each posted by the two players from each table that were scheduled to be the next big blind before consolidation. The dealer button will belong to the first player of the right of these two big blinds for the first hand. Once the first hand concludes, the dealer button will move normally to the left and regular play will continue.

STARTING STACKS: The five colored chips that will be used are white, red, blue, black, and green. Each color is worth a denomination that only has value during a tournament. At the start of The Open, every player will begin with $3000 worth of chips (4 blacks, 6 blues, 5 reds, and 6 whites). As the blinds raise higher, players will be "chipped up" to remove lower denomination colors. Chips are always rounded up. Here are the values of the colors:

White = $25
Red = $50
Blue = $100
Black = $500
Green = $1000

FORMAT AND BLINDS: Player seats will be chosen at random. This will be accomplished through labeled chips that players will draw to select their seat. The starting position of the dealer button will begin at Position 3 at each table. Blinds will start at 25/50 and raise every twenty minutes for the first six levels. Once the blinds reach the 800/1600 level, they will be lowered to fifteen minutes. Here is the blind schedule:

No rakes/cuts are ever taken on the league's behalf. Players are never charged an additional fee outside of the normal buy-in. Tournaments are privately held. All players begin events with equal odds of winning.  Players are prohibited from making "deals" during a tournament.  The tournament must be played until a single player has been deemed the winner. Players must follow all etiquette, including never showing another player their hand or performing any other actions viewed as cheating. No more than forty players will be registered for The Super Jackpot Open. No string betting. Cards speak for themselves. Substitutes are not permitted at any time. Only CPL chips will be used during the tournament. All money submitted to The Open is non-refundable. Points are not a part of the tournament (CPL point totals are not affected whatsoever). Directors reserve the right to alter the colors and denominations of chips used during the event. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card or a player’s hold card prior to the flop, a misdeal will be declared. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card after the flop, all players shall be allowed to see the revealed card and the hand will continue. Payouts occur as soon as the tournament ends. Add-ons are time specific. If a player chooses not to purchase an add-on at the start of the tournament and/or chooses not to purchase an add-on at the 300/600 level, that player will not receive another opportunity to purchase the add-on(s). Limit of one add-on per player per opportunity (two total for event). Add-ons cannot be purchased by players who have zero chips. Players who rebuy will reenter the tournament in their same seat. The rebuy must occur immediately following knockout. Rebuys can only be purchased between hands. Rebuys are only available for players with zero chips or players with less than $1000 worth of chips; only one rebuy may be purchased at a time. Once the first hand of the 800/1600 blinds has been dealt, rebuys are removed from The Open. Blinds raise every twenty minutes for the first six levels of the tournament. Blinds are reduced to fifteen minutes for the remainder of the tournament beginning with the 800/1600 level. Bounties are only awarded when a player is knocked out of the tournament for the first time. Players who rebuy and are then eliminated again will not have a bounty to award to anyone. For example, if a player collects three bounties and is then knocked out, that player will award their personal bounty to the player who eliminated them and then receive $15 for the three bounties they collected. If a player deliberately or excessively violates CPL policy, that player may be expelled from the tournament without refund.
All rule disputes will be resolved solely by a CPL Director (Robbie Cummings or Russell Pullen).

Brooke Irey and Mark Davidson will serve as Assistant Directors for this CPL Event only.

Thanks to Nicole Romero for her role as event coordinator.
